Nicknamed the Storyteller, Tom T Hall is not your typical country singer he wasn't born dirt poor, he never went to jail, in fact he was born in Olive Hill Kentucky in 1936 the son of a Minister, he attended college where he majored in Journalism.

It was after this that he started playing in a band and also hosted a country music program on WMOR in Morehead, Kentucky.

He moved to Tennessee after landing a song writing job for $50 a week with Jimmy Key. 1963 saw his first hit with Jimmy C Newman's DJ for a Day. but it was his 1968 smash hit Harper Valley PTA which became one of the biggest sellers in Musical History.

This was a typical Tom T Hall song always with a message, some anecdotes and some humorous irony.  He wrote hits for a wide variety of singers including George and the Northwoods a Dave Dudley hit, Margie's at the Lincoln Park Inn, for Bobby Bare, You can't trust a friend anymore for Lester Flatt and Mac Wiseman and I'm not ready yet for the incomparable George Jones.

In 1967 Tom T Hall signed his own recording contract with Mercury and six years later he was playing Carnegie Hall. Some of his greatest hits include, the Year Clayton Delany Died, Second Hand Flowers,  the classic Old dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine. Fox on the run, and Back when gas was 30 cents a Gallon.
