Country Artist brought to you courtesy of Play To Win

Texas has brought the world some great country artist and none more so than Tanya Tucker, born in Seminole Texas in 1958 Tanya Denise Tucker actually grew up in Arizona and Utah. Showbiz was her chosen career, landing a walk on part in the Robert Redford movie Jeremiah Johnson while very young. Pushed by her father Tanya was still a child when she joined the Country Westerners Band.

Delores Taylor a songwriter for Elvis Presley heard one of Tanya's Demo tapes, and recommended her to Billy Sherrill in Nashville.

Delta Dawn

Billy Sherrill signed Tanya upto to Columbia Records and in 1972 aged just 13 she had her first national hit with Delta Dawn.

She was the talk of the nation not just because she was so talented, some people felt that a 13 year old shouldn't be singing in such a deep lusty & sensous voice, it probably wouldn't have mattered if the song subjects weren't so adult and suggestive lyrics.

Initially her audience was made up more of the curios than real fans, but they stayed and grew to love this amazing talent. At one time she actively pursued an hard rock audience but as time passed she adapted her act to include more country mainstream sounds.

Some of her hits have been The Jamestown Ferry, What's Your Mama's name, San Antonio Stroll, Texas (when I die), Dream Lover (duet with Glen Campbell) Lizzie and the Rainmaker, A Cowboy Loving Night, Would you lay with me in a field of Stone,
