Born in Winchester Virginia in 1932 Virginia Patterson Hensley, won a tap dancing competition at 4 and by 8 she could play the piano and was singing in church.

By the time she was 16 years old she had auditioned for a position at the Grand Ole Opry, but was turned down, she stayed in Nashville for a while but eventually returned to Virginia.

Her luck changed when in 1957 she won a prize on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts a network television program.  Within days the single of the song she had performed became an instant hit the song was Walkin After Midnight. She was immediately signed by Decca Records and Godfrey booked her for his daily network show, and her husband filed for divorce.

Within a couple of years she had hit after hit and was at long last a member of the Opry, Her hits included Crazy, I fall to pieces, She's Got You, Faded Love, Sadly Patsy was killed in plane crash on 5 March 1963 while her career was still climbing.

Throughout the years lots of Patsy's unreleased recordings have been re-mixed and released to her still adoring fans, one of the most memorable was a duet with the late Jim Reeves Have You Ever Been Lonely, it was never intended as a duet and they both recorded the song seperately but it works extremely well. Patsy was elected to the country music hall of fame in 1973.
