Born 13 October 1948 in Bloomsburg Pennsylvania,

Lacy J Dalton started her career under her married name of Jill Croston. Her real name is Jill Byrem. Some say she had more bad breaks than most people but you won’t hear her moaning about it. Lacy’s husband broke his spine in a swimming pool accident and she devoted most of her time to looking after him.

Her interest in country music came from her family’s love of music, her father’s favourite song was ‘Give me forty acres and I’ll turn this rig around.’ Although when she left college she and her guitar playing boyfriend were part of the hippie movement and she was adamant that they were going to perform psychedelic rock, however the best laid plans often go astray and when she started to write she found she just couldn’t help but write country songs.

She also had probably the biggest line dancing hit of all time with Black Coffee. 1980 - Lacy was having top ten hits on a regular basis. Columbia seemed to lose interest in Lacy shortly after she had released a remake of Roy Orbison’s Dream Baby, which was her last top ten entry. Soon afterwards she moved over to Capitol records where she recorded four albums through 1992. In 1999, she assembled the Wild Horse Crossing compilation, which featured several new tracks of her own and was released by her own Let 'Em Run foundation, which worked to preserve the wild horses of the west.
