Ferlin Husky

Born in 1927 at Flat River, Missouri

Flat River Missouri 1927 saw the birth of Ferlin Husky who got his first break in music as a DJ and moved to Bakersfield, California to work in Radio Stations.

His singing career started under the name of Terry Preston he worked for several bands. On Radio he created an alter ego Simon Crum who was a humerous version of Ferlin.

Capitol Records signed him to contract more for his humour than his music, however he soon recorded his first massive success with Dear John Letter recorded with Jean Shepard in 1953, not long after this he reverted to his real name of Ferlin Husky although for a while he did spell it Huskey.

Ferlin Husky appeared in 18 Movies

He soon had another hit with Hank's Song a tribute to Hank Williams who had recently died. His other hits included On the Wings of a Dove, Once, Rosie Cries a Lot, and another hit under Simon Crum with Country Music is Here To Stay, he appeared in 18 movies.

Ferlin pioneered the introduction of pop sounds into country music, he claims to have been the first person to use drums at the grand ol opry, he also pioneered the use of vocal choruses as backups.
