Dottie West

Born in 1932 in McMinnville, Tennessee

Dottie West's story is certainly different than your usual country queen, born in McMinnville, Tennessee in 1932. She majored in music at Tennessee Technical College, it was while at college she met her future husband, who joined her on stage playing steel behind her.

Moving to Cleveland she secured a job on local television. She started to record for starday and then Atlantic, it was Jim Reeves who hearing her sing recommended Dottie to Chet Atkins.

1963 saw Dottie move to RCA and she had her first hit with 'Here Comes My Baby', realising her potential RCA paired her first with Jim Reeves and then Don Gibson.

She wrote 'Country Sunshine', for a Coca Cola advert and 'the last time I saw him', which was covered by Diana Ross. Her biggest successes came with Kenny Rogers.
