Dave Dudley king of the Truck Driving song, was born in Spencer, Wisconsin in 1928. Dave sole ambition in life was too become a baseball player fortunately for us and sadly for Dave an injury put an end to any hopes of a career in Baseball.

His career in country music started in 1950 he tried his hand at singing being a disc jockey mostly in the mid west, forming several bands he was having modest success in various clubs when injury once again was to force a change of direction.

Dave was hit by a car while packing up after a gig and during his long convalescence he heard the song Six Days on the Road for those of you who don't know the song it's about a truck drivers life and lifestyle.

Recording the song at his own expense a friend then went and placed it in Truck Stop Jukeboxes. Before you could say brake the song had swept across the nation and a new career was underway.

Truckers quite rightly see themselves as heirs to a tradition that began with pioneers, trailblazers, cowboys each one had a singer that sang their tales and now truckers had a such a singer in Dave Dudley, he had several truck driving hits such as Truck-Drivin, Son of a Gun, Trucker's Prayer,There Ain't No Easy Run, and 'One More Mile'.

He also had non truck driving hits such as Last Days in the Mines, George and the North Woods, and What We're Fighting For, as with Cowboy songs and such you don't have to be a trucker to enjoy Dave Dudley's lyrics.
